Free Home Building Lesson: Watch This Classic Clip
Here is a Classic Film Clip on How to Build a House
This how to build a house film clip that was made back in 1946 is a must-watch for anyone contemplating doing any sort of building. Even though it was made so many years ago the process has more or less remained the same. Mostly it’s various technologies that have changed in the past 6-7 decades, rather than the process of building a house using bricks and mortar.
The process goes from the need or the want to build to the idea of what is required by the owner, to the architect taking that idea and transferring it onto paper. Then the process of building begins from the foundation trenches and the concrete to laying the first foundation wall bricks.
Even though some of the materials used such as the plumbing pipes and fittings are no longer baked ceramic it will give you a good idea of what has to be done at the various stages and what it takes to build a house. The house in the film has a suspended wooden floor, for a solid floor, the foundation walls would be backfilled and a dampproof membrane laid on top, and then a concrete slab placed on top – see our post on the floor slab: concrete-slab.
The rest of the house from the windows chimney and roofing right the way through to the final handing over will show you the way a house should be built.
NB. The Building Regulations in South Africa were modelled on Australian regulations. So, what this film How to Build a House with Brick shows is very much the way that houses here in South Africa are built.
How to Build a House with Brick step by step
Historically, brick is one of the most popular building materials. It has been used for thousands of years to build a house, high-rise buildings, and even entire cities. While brick may be a bit more expensive than other materials (like timber), its durability and beauty can make up for that cost.
It’s possible to build your own home with brick if you want to save some money on your construction project. But before you start building your dream home with brick, it is important to understand how this type of building material is made.
Step 1: Selecting the right bricks
The first thing you need to do is choose the right kind of bricks for your home. You want to choose bricks that are strong, durable, and cost-effective, so you can move on to the next step.
Step 2: Setting up your bricklayer
The next step is finding a bricklayer who will be able to help you build your house with bricks. You should find someone who has experience building with bricks and knows how to use them properly. Make sure they have all the tools and equipment needed for their job.
Step 3: Preparing the ground for brick construction
Now that you’ve found a good brick mason, it’s time to prepare the ground for their work area, which includes removing weeds or other vegetation that might interfere with building projects like these ones in your yard or garden area. If there are any structures or structures in place already, remove them before beginning any construction projects for safety reasons!
Step 4: Installing the foundation for your walls
A good foundation will help ensure that your home is well-built and safe for years to come. In most cases, you’ll have to install footings before you add any other materials or build on top of them. The best way to get started to build a house is by digging down at least 150 mm below grade level. The architect and/or engineer working with you on your project will specify this.
Your builder will normally use mortar and rebar wire reinforcement methods to build a house before placing the concrete.
Step 5: Brickwork for the walls of your house
Brick is an easy material to work with and it has a long history of use. It can be found in almost any city but is especially prevalent in older cities that have been around for a while.
Bricks are made from clay or concrete. Bricks are made by adding layers of material to a mold and then pressing them together with a machine until they are dry and hard.
The first step to build a house with bricks is finding the right kind of brick. You can find bricks at home improvement stores, or you can buy them online from companies like Corobrik and Cashbuild.
Once you have your bricks, you will need to prepare them for building purposes. This includes breaking off any loose bits of clay or dirt on the surface of the brick and cleaning out any cracks or holes in the brick before you start laying them down in your foundation layer (or whatever other base structure you have chosen). After all this preparation work is done, it’s time to start laying down your foundation layer!
Brick is a versatile building material that can be used in both residential and commercial applications. It’s a popular choice because it looks good, but also because it’s durable and long-lasting. Brick is inexpensive to buy, and you can find it at your local home improvement store or online.
If you’re wanting to build a house with brick, a vital tip is to choose the right type of brick for your project’s needs and budget. There are many different types of brick out there, and they come in different shapes and sizes (some are even decorative). If you want something ornamental (like a fireplace), you may want to choose brick that has decorative elements like patterned or painted lines or designs on it.
